my current work is 'software packaging' which is basically an ITs job..

i was able to apply what i've learned from my hobbies and not from the subjects i've taken in college..

well if you end up working mainly in maintenance and operation, then most of what you have learned are useless..

but if you are into real engg works, (or at least teaching) then what you have learned may not be adequate.

Working in a maintenance/operation is not a real engineering works?
Wow! I imagined myself having to decide what to do if there's a fault in the Transmission line connected to the 138KV/69KV 100MVA transformer which is connected to the National Grid! Decision plays a vital role in Engineering, it's not guessing! Your decision comes from the fact that you know what you have learned in your lessons.

Engineers :
R & D (Research and Development)

Teaching
Managing
Operation
Maintenance
Construction
and many more...

Engineers are jack of all trades. :)

well, you have a strong point there.

what i have in mind is something like this, im an ECE and i want to design computers not merely repair,
design and build cellphones, implement my own bluetooth transmitters, design a digital IC, create  conformal antennas used in planes, build my own network router (not operate), implement embedded systems, design my own microprocessor and name it PARANZ 5.66 (gigahertz  ::) what can i say  ;D), etc.

engg mainly is all about creating something and thats what i would like to do.

Though in the end the definition of engg works depends on once's current perspective, and thats ok with me

If only our government will give more importance to R & D :(.
ako rin balak ko gumawa ng "transmission line" na walang linya... hehehe

kung meron ganitong engg work dito sa pinas, sigurado mabibilang lang.
sa semicon industry, ang malapit dito e ung test development. (software and hardware ang involve)

totoo.  Multnational electronic design & manufacturing companies only put up manufacturing plants here in our country. The only time they will established research & design departments is when they know that the country are producing sufficient numbers of skilled design engrs.

Hopefully the govt will do something about this to address the problems of the electronics engg education dito sa pinas. I have recently heard they, the govt,  are giving more budget sa CHED specifically to improve the field of MICROELECTRONICS, pero sana more effort pa. kulang talaga eh..

it was used to charge a cellphone by itself providing that there was transmitter within the vicinity. for more information please refer to

back to topic:

meron din naman, although ndi naman lahat ng subjects ay nagagamit talaga pero mabuti na rin ung may knowledge tayo doon kahit basic man lang kesa wala..

but as far as I know the core values, the guidance and the lessons that we've learned during our years in college life is more important and it has an impact in our daily lives..

Take the gun. Leave the cannoli.
