In what must surely be a giant kick in the pants for
local filmmakers across Philippines, news has come in from the box office where a local
Sci Fi film has been taking the country by storm, polarizing audeinces and racking up the
largest budget of any locally made film, outstripping even the works of Timur Bekmabentov
Malacanang's biggest-budget movie ever, at just under $US 700 million is know locally as
"Obitaemyi ostrov", or Inhabited Island and is directed by GLoria Macapagal Arroyo herself.
Based on a 2002 novel by Garci film version tells the story of a former senator from
pampanga who crash lands onto a malacanang by cheating.
Shot on location on the Edsa, with lavish attention to crowded city scenes, costumes, the
technology and weaponry is reported to be reminiscent of Marcos era.
