agree with sir martin at may sariling program ang pickit2 bukod sa MPlab so mas madali mag program using other compilers like proton or mikroc

baka to provide a little isolation sa VDD ng supply circuit ng board at VDD ng PICKIT2. Pero kahit wala na, magwowowrk naman. kung lalagyan, siguro around 33ohms wont hurt.

to avoid confusion, eto nalang:


PGD and PGC varies depende sa chip. refer to the datasheet of the target PIC.
typically, RB7 and RB6 are PGD and PGC, respectively.

the resistors by the label "to application circuit" could be a value around 1kohms. this is to provide isolation from the circuit during programming. pero depende pa din sa application. siguro kakailanganin ang special na isolation circuit kapag sensitive.

kapag gumamit tayo ng zif socket, di na yan tinatawag na ICSP. at kung sa zif socket, di mo na kailangang gumamit pa ng mga passive devices na nandyan sa diagram. direct connection yan.

Yung resistor sa Vdd, nilalagay lang yun para i-compensate / dissipate yung difference ng Vdd ng PICKIT2 at nung apps board. Kung ang Vdd is purely galing sa PICKIT2, maganda rin yun as a protection, malay mo, baka may mababang resistance across the power supply kapag patay yung source....

Yung resistor in between the Pics Vdd pin at VDD eh typo or drawing error lang yan sa document.

Sa diagram na provided ni marcelino, wala ng nakalagay.

Hindi pwede magkaruon ng resistor in between ng Vdd pin ng pic at Vdd otherswise the i/o pins of the pic wont be able to supply current or drive any load or the pic itself wont be able to startup due to lack of current supply.

Kung hindi naman siya permanent at during icsp lang nakalagay, it defeats the very purpose of ICSP.

In addition, PICKIT2 could detect the presence of VDD on the target board. Should there be a power on the board, the VDD from PICKIT2 will automatically disconnect. It will try to supply the MCU so to provide a power during programming. However, in some case it may not successfully sustain power (max of 500mA lang ang current source ng USB port). Minsan kasi, madami nang nakakabit sa MCU. And this is also the reason for the Resistors by PGD and PGC on my posted diagram  - to provide a bit of isolation between the load the the PICKIT2.

So I say, mas maiging palaging may power yung board. Para  yung VPP nalang ang iintindihin ng PICKIT2.
