PIC Based Timer
« on: April 06, 2008, 02:06:40 PM »
Hi Guys,

ask ko lang po sana kung meron na ditong gumawa ng PIC-Based Timer (with 2 x w/ 7 segment).

I have done it once during my early days with PIC. I used mikroPascal & PIC16F628A with 4x 7S LED & 4 common anode driver transsistors + few buttons.  Now I have the same question as Paranz's: Do you have PIC background?  ??? ???

make the hardware first. You may use a PIC16F84a with the 2 7-segment and maybe a 7-segment driver like 74LS47

pwede sa clock (using Timer), pwede ring sa AC line (like what some alarm clocks do)...

I recommend the use of timer register. The line frequency is not stable and will give big time drifts. Plus, you have to be dependent on the line - this will be a concern if you run on battery. If the cost doesn't concern you much at the moment, yes you can use external 7sd decoders but an 18pin PIC is enough for four digits.  ;)

Hindi ka nag-iisa,   :D yung alarm clock ko , SONY pa naman na may kasamang radio..naku after 3 days around 20 minutes ang drift - what a waste >:(

if you're into precision timing go for xtal controlled or even oven stabilized time based generator...pero kung di naman critical timing application you can opt to a simpler one..don't complicate your life..

Baka sa other country mo nabili yan at 50Hz ang reference frequency nila. Mabilis talaga ang takbo nyan if dito sa pinas 60Hz ang gamit natin.

I bought that one in HongKong (50Hz) during one of my family's holidays. When I came back to Vietnam which is also 50Hz, ganyan na ang performance nya. My wife tried it there in Pnas, lo & behold, mas malaki ang drift - 2+ hours in one whole day  :D. Actually, sinauna siguro yung design nya. Na attract lang ako kasi nga SONY. Most of the digiclocks now are having standalone time chips. Lesson and lesson, kahit matanda na tayo, we still have to learn lessons ;)
