choosing an os is not an exact science.  :) dapat depende iyan sa kailangan mo at kung ano ang kaya mo.

windows xp - if you just want something that would make you do office applications, surf the net and play games without worrying about anything. of course because you don't worry about anything, you have to pay somebody to do the worrying for you that's why napaka-mahal ng licensed software.  ;D dahil sikat, palaging ina-atake ng virus.

gnu linux - open source and free. good for people that like to know everything that's going on inside the box. for those who like to tweak and customize. pwede ma tweak to whatever specification you want or need. kaya lang dapat enthusiastic kang mag DIY. at dahil hindi pa masyadong sikat, hindi masyado ginagawan ng viruses.

Hindi masyado ma-appreciate sa 'pinas ang gnu linux dahil its best feature of being free is not really that great in the eyes of users who use pirated windows OS. Siguro kung small business owner ka at kailangan na licensed ang software mo para hindi kag ma raid ng OMB ngunit kapos ka sa capital or kailangan mo lang magcost cutting, dun na siguro papasok ang linux.  :D

also, kung gamer ka, ma-iinis ka lang sa linux.   ;)

2 days to go for the new UBUNTU.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

kung office applications lang naman at surfing ginagawa mo at DOTA :) ubuntu nalang hehe pupuwede naman sa wine ang warcraft eh para iwas sa mga virus galing ng flash drive.

sa vista masyado siyang memory hog, ambagal ng boot at response sa ibang program tapos madami padin incompatibilities kahit naka install na ung SP1 parang di nagbago

I'm using Linux but trapped in XP dahil sa mga software that cannot run fast on VMWare or cannot run completely with Wine...

Vista - trash, in my opinion... ;D and soon to be trashed by MS itself...

XP Professional - still good dahil maraming Engineering Programs na diyan pa umaandar...

Ubuntu / Other Linux - good for basic programs or learning how to program...mahirap lang dahil madaming software na wala sa Linux...mahirap din ang gaming though Wine can handle most of the games...

Enterprise Linux - Red Hat is popular but comes at a price...CentOS is repacked Red Hat that some free...ROHM uses CentOS...

dagdag ko pa pala, Ubuntu only takes a minute to boot completely on my system...completely stripped off XP - 2 minutes...Vista, it just sucks to wait to boot... ;D

ang mahirap pa konti lang ang efforts sa Wine Community to make Engineering programs work in Wine...siguro dahil busy rin ang mga Engineer... ;D

xp ako dati pero sa school vista pinagagamit so no choice and so far wala pa namn ako naencounter sa Windows Vista Enterprise hanggang ngayon. Baka bukas pa o sa takdang panahon ;D ;D

for good hardware mabilis naman siya...mataas nga lang requirements... ;D

ang nakakaturn off, kahit sa mga laptop na mababa ang hardware specs, Vista ang bundled software...takes 3 to more than 5 minutes just to boot...

at least good to hear that the will be extending Windows XP's life...

according to Windows extended up to 1 year after the release of the Windows Version release after Vista (currently Windows 7)...

accepted na nila yung fact na hindi welcome sa tao yung Vista because of hardware requirements kaya extended life ang XP...

wow good to hear that winxp will be extended... my laptop is also designed for windows vista, buti nalang xpee pa din ang bundled.

I have also tried vista and after two days, reformat kaagad ako! hehehe

pero yun na nga, gustong-gsuto ko pa din ang linux. I make sure that there will be a space for ubuntu linux. kahit konti... pero lately di ko na din nagagamit.
