vacuum tube advantages in power amps

Mga SIR sabi ng lolo ko yung vacuum tubes daw na audio amplifier yun daw ang first tinatawag na HI FI. kasi me Grundig daw sila dati na ampllifier na vacuum tubes. during the 60s daw yun. yung mga Phono ang ginagamit nila at 45 na plaka at vinyl LPs. maganda daw ang tunog nun. para daw magic sa ears niya...my lolo is 77 years old na...music nila dati nat king cole at platters..

you have to listen yourself to a real tube amp para mawala ang "daw", which is synonymous with doubt

Sir sa electric guitar na amps lang ako naka kinig ng tube amps. yung  marshall amps.na try ko din kasi during sa school program dati local band na member ako as a guitarist.mga 17 pa ako nun. two years ago. sa audio amp yung me music naka play na cd wala pa talaga kaya gusto ko makarinig ng tube amps. tinanong ko kasi lolo ko kanina sabi niya maganda talaga sound ng tube amplifier. pag umi init ang tubes lalong gumaganda ang music.lalo na sa boses ni nat king cole

Playing a piano oftentimes uses two same notes/keys where one is one octave higher than the other. And this sounds good. And this is what is produced by second order distortion that tube amps produce. A warm sound.
Maybe this is where the magic comes. Same with orchestra voices, same notes, and the blending sounds good.

...and add to that the emotion an artist or singer projected towards the listener, it cannot be heard , it is rather felt, others call this character of tube sound "palpable presence"

That's True, even when you're listening to Tube FM radio, you have a feeling that the DJ is infront of you.

I, also kept on wondering why tubes is coming back I thought it was being displaced by "less is more" tech.
I only see one heck of a reason as an advantage, "popularity". When it's popular it's in demand...just a thought though...

I, also kept on wondering why tubes is coming back I thought it was being displaced by "less is more" tech.
I only see one heck of a reason as an advantage, "popularity". When it's popular it's in demand...just a thought though...

if you're 20 below, tube is a complete alien thing
perhaps there is a reason why it is popular, objective listening is the key, sir tony was right, after you listen you decide, then perhaps a more in depth reason for the "popularity" thing

when i want to travel back in time, i just let my triode SE glow for about 10 seconds, switched on the B+, select "Remember When" by the Platters, sit back & close my eyes , who needs time machine anyway....

Tubes are more forgiving that solid state devices, once i accidentally put a 12vac heater voltage on a 6.3vac heater and after noticing that it really has a bright glow i power it off then check the wiring then put proper voltages and its still works nicely.

I like the tube glows.....especially the bluish ones...but some put a blue LED on base to imitate blue glow...

guitar amps & high fidelity amps are two worlds apart...

^and design considerations are entirely different.....in hifi amps, distortion is minimized, in guitar amps, distortion is encouraged and desired....
