Mga ka elab may tanung ako..

meron kaming windows server 2000, ngayon bumili kami ng bagong server at gusto naming lagyan ng windows server 2008.

gusto kong i migrate lahat ng settings ng old server to the new one, first time kong gagawin ito kaya nakaka-kaba pwede bang manghingi ng tulong mula sa mga expert dyan..

Bro di naman nakaka-kaba masyado yan kung bagong h/w ilalagay yung winserver 2008.  The worst that can happen is ma-offline lang ng konti yung old h/w running the old w2k server kung di successful yung configuration ng bagong winserver 2008.   Cut-off lang ang mangyayari dyan.

Ang naka-kababa ay OS upgrade on existing h/w.  Kahit may backup ka pa, di ka sure kung ok nga yung backup mo.

Practice ka muna sa virtual machine, replicate mo muna yung existing w2K server at users.  Ayan lang ang maganda sa mga windows server, pwede simulate sa virtual machine unlike unix servers  ... talagang recover ka from backup pag di successful ang upgrade.

Mga Sir hindi na kasi namin gagalawin yong old server ililipat lang namin lahat ng mga files at mga settings dun sa bago.

we have more than 70 users in our office at madaming ERP system na naka install sa old server kaya mahirap gumalaw ng hindi sigurado sa ginagwa hehe..

Hm, parang madali lang naman. Install win2008 server. Promote to active directory as member ng domain. Transfer operations master. Change GC. Tapos testing, hugot network kable ng lumang active directory .

Ay wait, antayin muna pala mag-sync yung mga ad server. Pag nakaka login ka pa din pagkatapos ng lahat, pwede mo na demote yung luma

1) Rule number 1 ...have a backup
2) Migration from Server 2000 to 2008 is ok, common issue we encounter in updating data is a data being created in 2008 cannot be opened in 2000 ( since not all of our server in some region like Middle East are not yet migrated to 2008 and still running in 2000 hence if a certain employee was from UK and his data is being created in 2008 and he migrated to work for a certain project in Middle East then we just migrate his AD data Manually back to 2000)

this might help... but just to make sure... gawa ka muna ng CR (change request) sa team ninyo and pa approve ka muna sa IT Manager mo para walang sisihan if ever magkaroon ng small glitch specially sa user end.

Yes, hindi ka pwede mag migrate ng 2000 - 2008 directly
