oh so hindi pala viable ang mag genrators, i guess wind & Solar power is the way to go to the Future then?

wind and solar are the most inefficient and expensive among the "renewable" power sources. so expensive that laws were needed in order to provide govt subsidies to lower the cost of wind and solar.

renewable? I would go for geothermal, something this country is rich in.

^ possibly even in other parts of the world, biglang bagsak ang nuclear industry. Uranium miners were down very steeply in the market.

sabi nga nung isa sa mga Japanese Engineer na involved doon sa construction nung plant, very rare scenario, 3 failsafe 'yung bumagsak, and a meltdown is still not ruled out. makapal daw 'yung containment vessel pero sana huwag na umabot sa masusubukan ba talaga kung kaya nung containment vessel.

i think we need renewable sources. geothermal, or hydroelectrics.. or maybe even natural gas.. yung available dito..

price of nuclear fuel like gasoline.. they are all imported will increase overtime like gasoline in a decade.. as excess supply is reduced and demand increases.. as other countries convert to nuclear maybe Oil prices will decrease.... so its the same ballgame... renewable sources and fuel that are available locally.. i think is the way to go.. in the long term.. and thy are not as dangerous to handle.. they may be costly to build.. but if we build one at a time... will sure to have a lot of them and pretty soon Will increase theire number. will lower energy prices.. and prices will be sure not to fluctuate...

patience is as they say a virtue.. we need careful planning.. we dont need anothr temporary solution like what Ramos did a few years back.. we need longterm solution.. just because prices have gone up now because of the troubles in middle east we go and jump to nuclear energy.. we should think about the implications years to come....

perhaps not in the near future. :D

dito sir malamang hindi pa rin matutuloy, perhaps not in this administration.

nearly 30% of our energy needs is already powered by geothermal plants. and I believe marami pa rin namang research dito as pointed out by our former consultant from UP.

ang sa tingin kong main problem kung bakit hindi na tayo gumagawa ng geothermal plants or any other plants is investment. like typical Pinoy business mindset, may nagagamit pa naman at kumikita pa ng pera, 'di pa kailangan ng bago.

I am more for concentrating on improving Hydroeloectrics than geothermal.. Because I think Hydroelectrics are more conducive to our country being agricultural.. Pede itong patubig para sa mga tanim ng magsasaka.. at the same time yung dam pweding palaisdaan, also flood control.. Nagagamit hindi lang as energy but also as food producer for our people.. We just need to find areas na pede gawin dam for future energy needs.. and mag tabi ng pera taon taon as parang savings ng gobyrno... wala kasing idea of savings ang gobyerno.. inuubos lahat ng pera...

hydropower is more expensive than geothermal, the cost of the power from the San Roque dam in pangasinan is roughly 10 peysos per kWhr. another problem is you have to flood an area to support the water requirements. that is terra-forming and could have consequences in the future as some areas will receive less water than they used to. and the dam will need to be de-silted else it will become shallow and unusable.

no, the problem is more of how to bring the power to load centers. Leyte is a rich source of geothermal power. however, the cost of bringing that power to, say Manila, is expensive - not to mention the amount of systems loss involved.

I dont know why San Roque rate is that high if that is really true.. when consumer generation charge is only about 5php per/kwh. ang alam ko mababa lang ang charge ng angat dam.. its government run and owned.. while san roque is IPP (Privatized).. maybe thats why its high we have to pay the foreign investors in their own terms like our toll fees and MRT.. while the governmen still cover the liability...  thats just greaaaatttt...

buti nalang di natuloy mabenta yung Angat Dam.. kundi tatas tubig pati kuryente.. kunwari lang sa umpisa mababa.. tapos saka itataas.. gagaling sa technique parang ninja.....

mahirap pa matrack ang corruption.. kasi private na... yung private na tao magbibigay kay senator congerss man bwan bwan para maipasa ang gusto nila.. no wrtten records only complete deniability.. wootsssssss yan ang technique...

as per EPIRA law, only private investors will be allowed to put up power plants. it is due to the experience in the past where govt owned the plants from 1972 to 1992 - massive corruption as well as a US$16 billion debt

san roque dam is high due to its being a "renewable source" - that and the massive investment usually involved when building a dam. however, there is no more "guaranteed income" for these IPP.

angat can never be sold, as well as other dams. only water services can be privatized, not dams or water sources. however, rising costs of water services may be correct, as the govt usually runs water services like a charity institution. which is the govt is always in debt.

the power plants are still under govt regulators who can demand their financial and operational papers anytime, unlike the unregulated oil industry. the power industry here is one of the most heavily regulated industries, as it is one of the most politically sensitive. unlike the oil companies, the power distributors and the grid operator are under the strict eyes of the ERC. the generators even though they are unregulated, have to compete with each other and that competition usually brings prices down. collusion between generators are a no-no and are monitored by the PEMC and the ERC

something is still wrong...there must be a reason (not excuse) why we can't have cheap electricity.

Data gathering lang naman ang nagawa ng ERC.

there is a reason - double taxation.

natural gas is one of the most viable (cheap price and abundance) fuel for electricity. however, a whopping 60% tax for government royalties plus the 12% eVAT on sales make this fuel source a virtual gold mine for politicians.

no politician has ever tried to remove these taxes, even the 12% eVAT. Billions of peysos will be lost from govt coffers if they removed the tax.

which means no more toyota fortuners, blackberrys, free internet, etc for pnoy appointees
