Yes, that's true...Just found transformer cores in junk shop..no space for the choke.

I'm trying to immitate Audio Note's Evergreen model "ONGAKU" ...The Ongaku is the Most Famous ,Best-reviewed amplifier in history and has been declared the "Best amplifier in the world" and it's the World's most expensive Stereo Components (P3.4million)...The only non-perfect aspect of the ONGAKU is that, we could not afford it!..This is the amplifier that inspired the worldwide Single-Ended Movement.

A legendary 27-watt power amplifier uses a single-ended triode, hand crafted by Hiroyasu Kondo, who uses 20 pounds of silver throughout the amp, including silver wire in the windings of the hand-made transformers.

At least kahit man lamang sa pangarap makita mo na it appears like, or it resembles the style..Kondo uses 211 Transmitter Tube pero wala ako nun. Maybe a little tweak will do for EIMAC 3-500z tube ang using all local parts from my workshop...I made it on the hard bottom chassis of HUG DVD.

@ric, tubes those big will require forced air cooling....ang challenge jan besides the high plate voltages is keeping the tube pins and plate caps cool.....sockets can be found here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-SUPER-Ceramic-Tube-Sockets-3-500Z-3-500-4-400-/390332489036?pt=US_Radio_Comm_Tubes&hash=item5ae1a11d4c#ht_3592wt_1187

Heat of the tube is above boiling point, forced air ko talaga 'to..If the big tube doesnt work, no problem, I'll look for 211 (I'm just playing)..Hindi ko na inabot yung Socket sa junk shop, isinakay na sa truck (ceramic pa naman,sayang!).. Anyway, nandyan naman si McGyver..handmade can do.

14.5A heater current @ 4kV max plate volts, i don't think that DVD chassis is up to the task to handle the weight alone, two tubes will require at least 30A heater windings on a traffo to warm up that monster plus 1KV @ 2A  to provide the HT for "audio duty", i can't imagine the size of the traffo, perhaps the size of an average welding machine :o :o :o

Very interesting project, or should i say DIY to the extreme, i wouldn't go too close to that amp while in operation, hanggang 400V@ 100mA palang nagagawa kong power supply  ;D

i had the chance to visit tony yesterday to bring in the 2 full carton tube stash. bouy his house is so adorned by tube amps left and right. i am pretty sure tony has something for us in the coming days or months. with those stash of tubes in his hands he probably wont be able to find a lot of rest in a very long while:D

i then went to raon and catched some old reliable alps dual log potentiometer at a very bargain price. another bonus was catching some bourns ten turns 10 and 20K trimpots.

saturday's traffic was bad but not so as my trip afterall.. ;D ;D

i am still sorting out tubes per category, off hand is see at least 20pcs, 6005, 6aq5, 6ar5, and 6as5 7pin pentodes good for 5 watts pushpull or at least 1 watt single ended....then i sorted 10pcs of 6av6 single triodes for driver/preamps.....

more to come in the following days....

the tubes i liked the most were the 2 6HF5's, now my stash is around 10 i can start making power amps out of them, i also got 2 pcs 40KG6 power tubes, plate is about the same size as a kt-120...

edrel, yung bang alps pots yung sa electromark? mahal kasi sa electromark....meron pa ba akong aabutan bukas?

dapat pala nakaorder ng mga 7pin sockets kay clark ano?

tony no worries i have enough 7 pin sockets for those mini peanuts.
i only got 2 pcs of the 50K alps, i think they have been lying there for a while and no one got them. no not from electromark. they do not have anything bargain for sale yesterday. the bourns were from the sidewalk..
