parang kulang pa rin yan 20k..  :'(
1)tektronix oscilloscope w/ passive voltage probes, current probe &
differential probe (more than 20k na 'to.. hehe :D)
2)fluke DMMs (almost 20k na rin.. hehe)
3)variable voltage/current power supply
4)tools (e.g. pliers and tweezers) and tool box
5)soldering tools (iron, sucker, lead, wick, etc)
6)comonly used electronic parts (resistors, capacitors, etc..)

-An oscilloscope is a must.
-Analog and digital multimeters.
-Temp controlled soldering iron.
-Adjustable power supply.
-good working table

The above should cost more or less 20K.

Additional items:
-breadboards
-microprocessor programmer, DIY or PICKIT2/ICD2 if you are into embedded systems.
-signal generator
-frequency counter
-hot air soldering/desoldering station if into SMD components.
-few wires with alligator clips at end, or banana connector and alligator pairs
-passive components sets (1/4W or 1/8W resistors, ceramic capacitors, electrolytics)
-common logic gates HC (74HCseries ) ICs (inverters, and gates, or gates, flipflops, counters etc.)
-computer / PC
-adjustable wall warts

Go for must have basic equipment like:

1.  Autorange Digital Multimeter (the one with frequency, temperature, hfe, and capacitance  test measuring functions, if you can find one with a inductance measurement it will be much better.)
2.  LC/R meter if you cant find a Digital multimeter with L and C.
3.  Temp. controlled soldering station. and associated accessories.
4.  Adjustable power supply and several regulated AC adapters.
5.  Universal device programmer (programmer for various memory and mcus).
6.  Additional cheap digital multineters.

The equipment doesn't need to be branded or expensive.  The above 3 items will cost about 8-10K max from cheap china or taiwan made products.  Keep the rest of your money for buying components for the project you want to build.  Then just start to build your equipment inventory as the need arises and when you have enough cash to spare.

Off course you will still need a printer, preferable a laser printer for printing the pcb artwork.

As for the oscilloscope, well off course all the electronics hobbyist would want one immediately but is really not needed specially when just starting out in electronics.  Test yourself first if your interest can persist into this hobby before investing in very expensive equipment.

soldering iron 100w (for heavy loads) : around 300-500php

Baka naman hot air gun yung nabili mo.  Mahal talaga yun, around 2.5K talaga presyo nun.

yung DMM ng ASTI - 550 lang. and mukhang ok naman. same functions as my Fluke (may 10A ammeter), and same readings.

eto ang list ko:

- DMM (at least 2) with a couple of probes, and clipping probes (kailangan pag multiple measurements
- a good set of precision screwdrivers (ok yung benta sa Alexan), for tinkering with mobile phones, kailangan mo rin yung pang-cellphone na screwdriver
- long nose
- diagonal cutter
- plastic cutter
- soldering iron (40W to 60W) (sometime you need 2 when desoldering/soldering in huge ground planes)
- temperature controllable soldering iron, preferably may hot-air station
- good set of solder wires (0.4mm and 1mm)
- solder sucker
- solder wick
- DIY programmers would be good to begin with
- a DIY logic probe can also assist you if you don't have an oscilloscope

additional accessories:
- 12V blower fan, you would not want to inhale the fumes
- a PC PSU converted to a bench supply (so far, puro 12V at 5V at 3.3V pa lang naman kailangan kong voltages, so it's fine for me)

wag basta-basta hakot ng gamit at top of the line and branded pa... :o

are you planning to design or work with high speed digital or analog circuit? which requires multi channel super accurate scope or equiptments?

ako i started at mosquito peste este..pester ng EE and started with 25 petot soldering iron..some hand tools etc....

be wised sa investment mo...invest for necessity...

simple lang sa akin
1. soldering iron

buy as you need. pero ang starter package lang, soldering iron, DMM (pwede rin analog), basic tools (long nose, screwdrivers, diagonal cutter), and Power Supply.

(80 pesos compared to 300++ toolbox)

nice advice. ;D

hindi nga dapat mawawala yun. I also do minor machine works like drilling, grinding, and cutting of metals kaya madalas din ako masugatan. dapat laging ready ang first aid kit. mahirap maghanap ng gamot kapag tumutulo na ang dugo. ;D

Go for simple things first to get you started.

You can for example buy the following things first:

1. DMM - necessarily branded, just something to give you an indication that there is something there
2. Soldering iron - get something that is of good quality, it might be a bit expensive but there is nothing better than a good solder joint
3. Solderless Breadboard - nothing beats testing concepts to actual circuits without breaking the bank
4. Logic probe - a must for digital circuits
5. PSU - You can DIY or buy a ready built one. Could be as fancy or as simple as you want. Digital or analog display wanted but not needed as long as you have that DMM above.
6. Sturdy Work table - A place holder for all of the above and for you not to burn your dining table else you might get evicted
7. Table Lamp - stop straining your eyes, get one.

I estimate that all of the above would not cost more than 15K (may pang inom pa tayo hehehehe)

As your projects get more an more complicated and complex and you had the hang of using your equipment you can target to buy an Oscilloscope, better DMM, etc....

I make anything from something to nothing
