tapos may database para mag decrement then gsm module for inquiry.

Any form of wireless means (except for GSM) is not reliable for actual commercial implementation.  All of these are subject for interference unless off course  regulated and licensed yung frequencies used which is almost impossible to implement on a large scale basis.

Kung GSM naman which is lets say 90% reliable, it will cause unusual sms traffic congestion.  Sa isang cell sector kasi, there is only one 16 kbps (or maybe one 64 kbps channel, nakalimutan ko na) where all SMS traffic will pass.  Imagine how many household is served by a single sector in a cellsite. Also imagine the cost of the sms message to the power provider which actually renders this idea unrealistic.

The only realistic and reliable means is via PLC or BPL.  IIRC, ito yung pinapag-aralan na iimplement ng Meralco for their prepaid electricity.

Kung for thesis and proof of concept, pwede na siguro gamitin X10 protocol or even PLC (sa CDRking meron mga Powerline ethernet).  Gamit lang ng arduino with ethernet shield, tapos yung powerline ethernet on one end and on the other end a nother powerline ethernet with an attached pc will will act as the server to control the meter.

edit: zilog pala thread na to .... instead of arduino, gamit na lang ng z8duino as coined by Kuya M.

two ways to go:

1. change all existing meters with e-meters w/ card reader load capability.

2. adapt a device to the existing meters, to accept card load
and interface energy consumption to the existing energy meters.

card load should be available in any malls or big department stores  :)

explore also e-loads,  using cp but in number codes with random pw to be inputed by the owner in the meter numerical pads  ;)

meter serial number will be the key number....
