Fancying offering a cheap-as-chips Android tablet for those not prepared to shell out megabucks for an iPad? Then Chinese manufacturer Kinstone has just the deal for you. By Guy Daniels
Say hello to the Kinstone KS-UMD-070A9 Android tablet. Nicolas Charbonnier of the ARMdevices website obtained the device at the Shenzhen Electronics Fair. You can see his demonstration here. According to Charbonnier, the Kinstone manufactured tablet will ship at $95 free on board from Shenzhen, for orders of 500 units or more. This would place the likely retail price in the US and Europe at around $150-$200.
The tablet runs Android 2.2 on a single core 800MHz ARM Cortex A9 processor. The specifications also indicate that the device features 512MB RAM and 4GB of Flash memory. It has a 7” resistive screen, although a capacitive version is also available for an extra $30.
