wifi/antenna coverage area
« on: June 03, 2011, 09:44:40 PM »
mga bro/sis.., pano po ba e.compute or calculation para malaman ang actual/estimated coverage area or distance ng isang wifi/antenna? example yun wifi/antenna w/ Vertical/horizontal beamwidth mo 30/360 degree, transmitting power 5 watts, how far po ang kaya niya e.reach.. ??? ???,

with that antenna, ang assumption ko around 6 to 9 dBi ang antenna gain mo.

5W is 37dBm, AFAIK, acceptable receiver level is around -70dBm. EIRP is around  37dBm + 9dB or 46dBm.

Like what RD said, bale wala kung malakas ang transmitter ng base kung mahina ang transmitter ng clients, you are still limited by the range of your clients.

As your vertical beamwidth is 30 degrees, theoretically wala ka dapat marereceive na signal if the antenna is placed 9 meters high and the laptop is directly below it.   But the signal can find otherways to leak in/out under the antenna.

Tama si sir alyas. Broadcast antennas have electrical downtilt, cellular ones both have electrical and mechanical downtilt. Based on trigonometry lang yung angles.

Theoretically mapapaabot mo nga yan ng 6km, pero yung clients mo can only transmit within 100m or even  less.

tama po..malayo talaga area of coverage niya, and even below the antenna still im able to get the signal and still malakas parin..., nag field test kami kanina at yun nakita ko nga na kaya niya abutin ang ganun ka layo...salamat po sa inyo bro..:-) :-)
