The word "AMATEUR", unfortunately, has gain a bad connotation lalo na dito sa pinas. Dito kasi, "amateur" is wrongly associated to incompetence.

Amateurs are actually people working things for fun (as hobby) , not for profit. Maganda yung sample ni boss martin, Amateur Radio Relay League ARRL. Many members of this prestigious organization are actually professionals,scientists, university professors, PHDs and top notch engineers. These people are anything but incompetent.

The "ProjectoBot" initially aim to use in our events to attract "foot traffic", by means of projecting the image/video on the floor/wall or maybe on the ceiling, it has the capability to pan and tilt the projection. Having this bot controlled over a wireless handheld controller, will add to its functionality to move around using its supporting wheels and enable to control its other functions like, talking through recorded voice media, playing sounds/audio.

You may also incorporate a brochure/sticker holder, donation box, and any other functions that may serve as an entertaining medium for future needs.


We do also plan to put this bot in our upcoming event "Transformers Revealed", this coming July 10, at SM Mall of Asia, Music Hall..

just trying to help lang naman. "trying". kaso napansin agad ung masakit sa mata na word na yan, nang mga taong sa tingin ko ay pwdeng makapag donate sa club. experience ko, hindi talaga maganda sa mata nang mga 3rd party sponsor ung ganung mga klaseng word.

IIRC, ang pagkakatanda ko  Philrobotics yung name and description yung "Amateur Robotics Club".  May thread dati dito somewhere with a list of names na pinagbotohan.

If people find prestige in being called an Amateur Astronomer, Amateur Photographer, Amateur Bowler, etc, why not Amateur Robotics (i.e. Robotics Lover  courtesy of tita rdp).

Again, the word "AMATEUR" had been misused so often, that it assumed a bad meaning of its own. The fact that two of your members reacted negatively may already be an indication that you may have to reconsider dropping the word altogether especially if it will ward off potential donors, as ate PICUSER experienced.

In my opinion, you should avoid projecting philrobotics as a professional organization. Potential donors will assume people on your roll are representing companies, thus, your org is capable of generating funds on its own. Avoid using the word "Association", "Professionals".

Non-profit org run by universities/colleges/students, on the other hand, labels themselves as "Clubs" and "Society".

Foreign Amateur org labels themselves as such, "Amateurs".

As far as I know, there is no written rules regarding these- its more of a naming convention. Some gray area may exists, pick a label falling into the gray area - you don't want to project yourself either as a student or university org.

What kind of DC motors are you planning to use sa project?

May extra ako dito na two DC geared motor at 350 RPM 12V. Halos same ang specs dito.
