Hi all,  I wrote this in the user manual  as I quote

"Well,  with my 20-0-20 Vac Transformer, with 17Wattrms /channel (34 Wattrms Stereo) instead of 20Wattrms / channel due to power supply issue,  in my opinion is acceptable. I still can enjoy the true power of music in my room, I guess I can only used 50% of its total power  <for my listening pleasure - personal assesment>.

Why I not opt to use the 24-0-24 Vac Transformer to keep the full rated Output?  The expected Vdc at 24Vac is about 33.8Vdc, total rail is 67.68 Vdc.  According to LM1876F Absolute Maximum Rating on page 2 of the datasheet, the Vcc+Vee is 64V with or without input.  With 67.68V,  I already exceeded the Absolute Maximum Rating which damage to the LM1876F may occur.

In actual,  I soak test the system for several hours and I do not get a failure.  With this power supply, operating at maximum power for several hours is expected to exhibit thermal run away.  It did not!  it’s amazing performance!   Heatsink is really hot, so as the 4 ohms load resistor, I cannot touch it.

However, it is not guaranteed that this may happened to all IC at all situations.  The safest is to use 20-0-20 Vac Transformer.  I tried to use also 18-0-18 Vac at 2 Amperes Transformers,  the Power Output I can squeeze both channels driven is  8wattrms/channel or 16wattrms Stereo."

I'll stay with 18-0-18...

mas madali pa hanapin compared with 20-0-20...

if one is to spec power rating as per FTC, then the following needs to be done:

maintain a constant input voltage say 220volts ac power to your amp, an avr or a variac can be used here......

then using a dummy load of say 8 ohms, you can input a 1khz signal carefully monitoring the output with an ac voltmeter and a scope taking note of the ac output before clipping.....if you have a thd meter you can also use it....

power rating stated on device datasheets are more often than not happening in the real world, that is why i have always emphasized the importance of the psu, after all it is half of the amp....
