USB to PS/2 Translator
« on: December 08, 2011, 01:09:39 PM »
I am working on a project that requires me to use USB Hub IC. I want my device to be connected to either USB or PS/2 ports on the computer. What would be the best way to implement a USB to PS/2 translation or switching circuit? I tried to look for USB Hub ICs that have PS/2 support but failed. Mas madali ba kung gagamit na lang ako ng microcontroller para mag switch from USB to PS/2 data format? Im planning on using only one connector and just change the cables for support.

Thanks in advance sa mga advice nyo mga masters  :)

What device? Since it is compatible to the PS2 port then it is either a mouse or keyboard.

Most modern USB mouse or keyboard IC are auto-detect and auto-convert USB/PS2 protocol.

Keyboard. I wanted to add other features on the keyboard which I will connect to a USB hub within the keyboard. The problem is how to convert USB to PS/2 protocol with the device not being fully a keyboard?

The PS/2 protocol for keyboard only accepts keyboard scan codes. If your device isn't a keyboard or mouse, I don't think you can use that interface.

I am sorry but you sound secretive with your device. So, hanggang doon lang mapapayo ko.

ah, okay. I thought that the PS/2 port can handle devices other than the mouse and keyboard.

My project collaborates a camera and display with keypad module. I planned to connect the three devices to a usb hub IC and have an auto detection circuit so it can be plugged to the PS/2 port of the PC.

Salamat po sa elightenment motion55 :)
