Using Double-sided Presensitized PCB (a technique)
« on: June 23, 2008, 09:58:16 AM »

I'll share my technique kung paano magawa ng PCB for your circuit, using a double sided presensitized PCB.

One of the major difficulty in making a double-sided PCB is the proper aligning of pins/pads/holes in both PCB sides. I hope that by using this technique, mas mapadali ang pag-align.

I'll be using a 10 x 7.5 cm double-sided presensitized PCB i bought from e-gizmo (10 x 15 cm i cut in half  ;)).

I will also need an illustration board and a scotch tape.

i will cut an illustration board to a size much bigger than my double-sided PCB. Refer to figure below.

then, i will cut (using a cutter  :D) a 10 x 7.5 cm area in the middle of the illustration board, in order for my PCB to fit in.

The PCB is inserted, to test if it fits.

at the same time, print ko muna ang dalawang PCB design from Ultiboard to a either a tracing paper or acetate.

I'll be using a tracing paper (much better if acetate since its transparent, unfortunately i dont have one at the moment  :( )

i taped 1 of the design (also a 10 x 7.5 cm, bottom layer) to 1 side of the illustration board and i make sure that the printed design aligns to the 10x7.5 "hole" area on the illustration board

align the 2 designs properly, so that pad/holes/pins on each design matched properly. Add more scotch tape para hindi na ma-moved ang dalawang tracing paper. This is critical, or else you will get misaligned (a useless) PCB  ;D

since im using tracing paper, medyo nahirapan ako ng kunti sa alignement kasi hindi transparent. Much better if acetate ang gagamitin. But i still use tracing paper since it is much cheaper

now, its time to expose the double-sided PCB.

insert the PCB (with the white coverings removed already  :D) carefully to the illustration board. Make sure you don't misalign the 2 tracing paper! Or else you have to align them again.

Then, expose the 2 sides, 1 after the other, to your favorite UV/light source.

I'm using my own fluorescent lamp for PCB exposure.

i removed the the PCB from the illustration board, treat it with the developer solution (to removed exposed portion), and here is the result

copper top layer:

copper bottom layer:

kakagawa ko lang ng K149BC na USB/Serial programmer..double sided pcb..wala ako makuna ng ordinary PCB FR4 lang available..ginawa ko single-sided then dinikit ko lang yung dalawang single-sided.. ;D ;D
badtrip! di ko napansin...di pala mirror pa toner transfer ko!!  :'( :'(

Sayang lang..

then i etched the PCB.

Afterward, i inspected the PCB and the holes/pins perfectly align in each sides.

wat do you mean na link? you can see it naman po sa illustration ni sir paranz.. hehe.. critical lang talaga ung part kapag ilalagay mo na ung pcb mo.. :D

mas mabilis talaga yung fine tooth na hack saw/lagating bakal ;D ;D kelangan lang ng matatag na pagpapatungan :D
