Hello
« on: March 08, 2012, 08:02:14 AM »
Hi, my name is Jeremy Green, British, moved to Cebu last January and love it here (I have
been visiting since 2006...)

My original background was in electronic engineering, but moved to software development.

I am still very interested in technology and electronics and I was hoping to set up a makerspace
community here in Cebu. If anyone is interested in open source hardware/software, robotics,
diy electronics, microcontrollers, etc, and is in the Cebu area I would love to know.

Finding it really hard to source electronic components over here though !!!

Hi Efren,

Any particular places I should visit, apart from picking up a gizduino ? My family and I are
planning a trip in April to Manila and the north of the country.

Thanks...

Thank you to everyone and their replies.

At the moment I am looking to get some assorted passive components as I want to build some PIC
projects as examples. Any info on USB pic programmers and Arduino boards would be useful.

Apologies for slow replies, I only know a little Visayan at the moment, and no Tagalog at all.
Wife has to translate. hahahha.

Hi,  I hope you will pass by Baguio City  (the city of Pines)    http://www.baguioboard.com/   in northern Philippines,  I live here.

Are you going to Ilocos Provices like Norte (Laoag City, Pagudpud - really nice beach there) and Sur (Vigan)?

Hi glutnix_neo,

Glad that their are other likeminded individuals here in the Philippines. I am still seeking out avenues and
hopefully maybe we will have a small group in the next couple of months.
I am also sourcing components for some small aurduino/PIC projects.

I have not heard of PhilRobotics, but I will check out the website asap !!!  ;D

Hopefully meet up one day,

Jeremy

Thank you for the invitation Sir, we hope to be dropping by Manila next month.

If I could find a reliable and cost effective supply of parts I would consider creating some kind of
supply shop here. I may find out more information next week to see if there is a large
enough customer base.

Hi Jeremy,

Reggie here and based in Cebu.

I do software and embedded systems development as profession.
Electronics is my hobby as well and been looking for good parts supplier locally too.

I mostly import parts but not often due to shipping costs.
There are few stores that sells MCUs here but not that complete.
You could order at e-gizmo (http://www.e-gizmo.com) and let them ship from Manila to Cebu that will just take a day or 2.

Have fun on your stay here on this board. :)
