Familiar with Arduino ?
« on: July 25, 2008, 10:50:12 AM »
Hi Guys,

Check out this very cool open source electronics prototyping platform. -> http://www.arduino.cc/

Everything about arduino is open-source. From the design down to the software. And it is painless
to program. Programming is done in a C like language and uploading the code to the microcontroller
is just two clicks ( Verify/Compile and Upload ).

The only problem is that there is no local supplier in the Philippines, I have to get mine in Singapore ( sgBotics ).
But since everything is open, it creates an opportunity for anybody to create it locally. They do have a
design for a one-sided PCB, easy to construct ( for a hobbyist ) arduino, that uses the serial port ( Arduino Severino ).

Anyway, I am using my arduino now to control my hobby robot. If anybody has an arduino or is contemplating to get
one,.. now is the time to speak up :D.

Btw, arduino uses AVR's atmega168.

We would love to hear about it. Ako din,
I'm planning to create the arduino severino ( though I already have a diecimila ) though
the lack of atmega168 is a real problem.

San ka nkabili ng atmega168 ?

i've seen lots of websites about this arduino just last week when I was working on my xbee modules..
this should be good.

trust me bro, it is. Programming it is like heaven on earth if you are used to the PIC cycle of write code, compile, upload via programmer, test ... eto, write code, click, click, test.

ako, am experimenting with mine. Im starting with controlling a differential robot. After this, maybe try to interface
a Nokie 3310 LCD.

Yup, marami talagang gumagawa ng sarili nila, after all, the design is open source. And they also have a very "hobbyist" friendly version
called Arduino Severino which is a single sided PCB suitable for hand-soldering. Serial port nga lang ginagamit but what the heck, i bet it is
as easy as the USB versions.

Well, I started this thread so I'm very interested with it. In fact, first love ko ngayun
ang arduino ko. Yes, it is a bit pricey. Right now, I know of somebody trying to create
his own arduino so I might ask for his total amount if ever he completes it so we'll
know how much it will cost if you assemble your own.
