Help on IR operated Switch
« on: February 06, 2008, 09:34:06 PM »
Bro's can you guide me in making an infra-red controlled switch?

One of my hobby is to make customize Gundam models (yes the toy). Im planning to have its eyes light up using bright LEDs controlled via IR, using a regular TV remote controller. I.e when I point the TV remote control (Sharp model in particular) to the Gundam and press "power" it would turn on the LEDs on the eyes of the Gundam. Pressing the "power" again would turn the lights off.

Any help or sources I can study to build this? Thank you.

I wish for this night-time to last for a lifetime
The darkness around me
Shores of a solar sea
Oh how I wish to go down with the sun
Sleeping
Weeping
With you

I walk alone
Every step I take
I walk alone
My winter storm
Holding me awake
It’s never gone

I fear that soon you'll reveal
Your dangerous mind
As your true colours show
A dangerous sign

Well. if sandman is looking for just a single function IR circuit, he may use a three terminal IR receiver (e.g. Vishay HS0038) for improved range, and a 555 circuit driving the Tx LED at the IR receiver frequency (38Khz for HS0038). But this simple uncoded setup is somewhat prone to interference from other light sources, like from a flourescent lamp. :)

Thanks for the help. The gundam kit I modify is 1/100 scale, height is approx isang dangkal so maliliit lang ang space to introduce a circuit inside. I plan the circuit to be placed inside the chest, and just one bright LED at the head (its enough to light up both eyes). The sensors can be placed sa chest na rin siguro including watch batteries (AAA's are to big to fit inside a kit). Dont know yet if it is enough to drive the circuit and the sensor..

ang ginawa ko sa bahay.. bumili ako ng IR sensor sa alexan tapos .. puwede mong gamitin kahit anong remote control pero ang downside nga lang niya kahit anong pipindutin na key sa remote, isang function lang ang ginagawa niya...

ibig sabihin since ON/OFF lang naman ang gagawin mo , no need to decode the frequency range...

1. ung microntroller mo sa gundam mo ang maginterpret kung may key ka ng pinindot sa remote tapos turn on the LED
2. tapos the next time na nagpress ka ng key.. turn off naman ng LED
