help me! asap pls! an ancient chinese problem!

an ancient chinese problem!

a band of 17 pirates stole a sack of gold coins. when they tried to divide the fortune into equal portions, 3 coins remained. in the ensuing brawl over who should get the extra coins, onepirate was killed. the wealth was redistributed , but this time an equal division left 10 coins. again an argument  developed in which another pirate was killed. but now the total fortune was evenly distributed among the survivors. what was the least number of coins that could have been stolen??

show me ur solutions... thnxx asap plsss........

i got one here. This is actually calculating the modulus... di ko to naiisip. nagtry din ako, pero di ko naisip na icalculate using its modulus...

x=a17+3

3 equations, 4 unknowns eh ... kulang ng isa pang equation

Looks familiar...  UP Padunungan Question to ah.. hahaha

Tama solution ni Boss Marcelino.. Tawag dyan Chinese remainder theorem.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_remainder_theorem

You cant solve it with that.. :D Dba sir? hehe
