USB Flash Drive
« on: March 24, 2009, 09:38:29 PM »
How can I disable my PC detection of USB flash drive and then re-enable it. I want it out of my children access to avoid viruses. I already format my pc many times because of this.  ???

To disable the access to USB port, in windows XP and 2000, follow the steps below
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3. Locate, and then click the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor
    4. In the right pane, double-click Start.
    5. In the Value data box, type 4, click Hexadecimal (if it is not already selected), and then click OK.
    6. Quit Registry Editor.

To re-enable a disabled port, follow these steps below

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3. Locate, and then click the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor
    4. In the right pane, double-click Start.
    5. In the Value data box, type 3, click Hexadecimal (if it is not already selected), and then click OK.
    6. Quit Registry Editor.

Ok... para maalis here it is:

open command prompt (use this one from now on instead of Run)
1.Go to Start-All programs-Accessories-Command Prompt
2. At the prompt... Type Regedit then - enter or return key
3. In Regedit find the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU
delete all the values in this key except the (default) value
you may need to restart or logoff for this one to take effect..

galing kay google, mabilis at walang intay..

http://lifehacker.com/software/lifehacker-top-10/lh-top-10-usb-thumb-drive-tricks-255738.php

kasi i have to work... and of course... I have to sleep :-*

heto na nga kasi...

1.back up all data sa USB drive
2. Format USB drive (FS: NTFS)
3.Create a new folder in the root(of course) of the drive (name it whatever u like)
here comes the tricky part...
4. in the newly created folder... change Security access to all users (full control BUT do not inhirit from parent the access right) hhhmmm bahala na kayo and ask nyo si kuya ajak
5.Change the Security Permission of the drive (USB) to -everyone and System - read only

result:
the root drive is read only wherever PC you use it even on your own(no autoruns)
the new folder created will serve as an OPEN folder where you can read/del files

now if you cant wait and di nyo yan makuha, your best opt is to go to:

which I bet wala nyan don :P

pag ka format nyo po... just make a new folder in the flash drive... yon na yon.. a folder
in the root directory ;)

forget about root dir... just make a new folder after formatting the flash drive
then change Security attributes as mentioned  :'(
goodluck! :-*
