This is incorrect.

Power factor = real power / apparent power

Where "apparent power" is the inductive power or reactive power. This is sometimes seen as "VA" values on the motors.
If apparent power is inductive, a parallel capacitor on the line will correct the power factor.
But if it is capacitive, it will make it WORSE.

Power factor is between 0 and 1.
A power factor of 1 or near is like a RESISTOR load (heaters). While less than 1, is either seen as a capacitor or inductor load in AC.

Real power however remains the same.  Power factor does not affect the efficiency of a device except for power transmission.

power factor.. ito ung nagsasabi kung ilang percent ng apparent power ang nacoconsume ng actual user like homes...efficiency nga kung baga..


example:
 if:
p.f.=.8
apparent power =12kVA

true power= (12kVA)x(.8)=9600watts ang true power....
80% ng total power from powerplants ang dadating sa bahay nio..
20% ng  total power from powerplants ang nagdissipate sa conductors...

p.f. is gotten from the formula: p.f.=arc cosine A, where A is the phase angle
