Mahirap ipagpatuloy itong project na water heater lalu na tag-init pa!  As it is I already took two cold showers today  :-[

Anyway, here's a simple analog temperature controller based on the Velleman MK138 kit I assemble a few years back.  The kit used an LM324 quad opamp but only two of them were connected, so a dual LM358 opamp would easily fit the job.  I swapped the values of R102 and R104 for the output result I needed.

The Velleman MK138 PCB minus the relay.

I'm not using this circuit for this experiment.  I'm using an Arduino clone- Pro Mini.  You might say it's an "overkill" but I'd like to incorporate a 12 minute timer in the circuit together with a water sensor option.  Going with the Pro Mini would be a good exercise, and it's cheap.

Semi-dangerous experiment.  Don't do this at home unless you are well confident about working around 220Vac and running water  :o

My 'duino controller and SSR by the kitchen sink.  The water heater used was the portable stainless steel described in the beginning of this thread.

Below is the pot with the heater element under running water.  The thermistor and thermometer sensor are clipped to the edge of the pot.

And yes,,, that's not a Pro Mini.  It's an Uno clone.

Let's get back to the actual shower head water heater which this experiment will use.
Here's the operating specs.  Made in Brazil daw pala ito.

Here's a good place to drill a hole for the thermistor:

I happened to have a #1 drill bit (0.228) which was just the correct size for the expanded .22 shell.  Remember our homemade thermistor casing? (Reply #29)

What it looks inside-  before and after the thermistor casing is "pressed fit" in the hole.

No glue or sealant was needed.

The thermistor is wired with Ribbon Cable wires and terminated with a 2.5mm phone plug.

That does it for the shower head mod.  Next will be the controller.

This DEECO (Miyama) plastic box is all I could find to use as the controller box.
The pot is there in the front with the jacks on the upper right side.

The jacks are: Thermistor input, output to SSR and power.

A bit of spray paint takes away the dullness.
The BLK knob also needs some attention.
Maybe a shiny chrome on its face will give it life  :)

I covered the back of the "speaker" grill inside with a piece of acrylic cut from a CD box.

Here we are, tag-ulan na mainit pa rin ang klima  :-[
Mahirap pa rin pag-usapan ang water heater project.

New toy from eBay just came in today.  I will use it to monitor the AC current consumption on this project.
I used an analog, handheld current clamp before to measure the RMS current of the heater.  With this new
clamp I hope to plug it in into my O'scope to see how the AC behaves when it switches.

When the water heater is set to Low, this SCT-013-030 Current sensor (clamp) reads 474mV on my Fluke 12 multimeter and around the same to 478mV on my Fluke 87 III True RMS multimeter, which when converted to Amps is right around 14A.

My earlier reading on my Micronta analog AC V-A meter was exactly 14A.  Ha!, that was nice  :)

Simple lang.  I-clamp lang sa isang linya ng load, read the voltage (milliVolts) then multiply by 30.  Kasi 30A to 1V daw ang ratio.

Igagawa ko nga ito ng opamp buffer and gain amp para sa digital voltmeter so direct Amps reading na ang labas.
