Mas "off" ang trigger sis. Ayaw ipagaya siguro.  :)

Nako OT na yata.

tanong ko lang, if relay ang gamit to switch, importante pa ba ang zero cross detection?  or for simple on off switch lang?  kailangan lang ba tong zero cross detection if triac ang gagamitin?

It takes a few milliseconds for it to settle, kaya wa-effect ang zero-crossing.

I looked at PIC16F1708, built-in zero-crossing detect on a 20-pin IC.
Wala sa RS or Element14.

yong pinakamabilis na response time ng relay ay nasa mga 8 to 50ms from energizing the coil to contact closure. ang powerline natin ay 60hz meaning ang one cycle nito ay 16ms at ang peak voltages occurs every 4ms. kahit e switch natin sa zero crossing yong coil ng relay ang contact nito ay pwedeng mag-close sa peak ng line voltage.

whereas sa triac nanosecond ang respond time nito from bias to conduction kaya pwedeng ipa trigger ito sa zero crossing dahil sa bilis nito mismong sa zero crossing talaga ito mag-conduct.

How simple do you want  ???
555 circuit mas available ang parts.  Check mo yung kabilang thread.

Update:
It works as in the schematics on post #1 and I used a transformerless PS.  The Triac is a Q6008RH4, 600V 8A.  No considerable heat on the Triac with no heatsink, just slightly warm with 60W bulb load.  Wala kasi akong higher load for this "dry run" and I don't want to plug in the ref just yet while I'm characterizing the circuit.

My ref is about 135W.  I'll be happy if I won't need a heatsink for this.  My next version I will try to do away with the optocoupler and do the zero crossing algo on the PIC itself.

Here's the PS section.  Reminder again that this is NON-ISOLATED and DANGEROUS ! ! !
Once in use, there should not be any access to the circuit.

This PS has enough current for the PIC, LED and opto.  CR3 gives out 4.9V and you might want to use 1N4734 to up the voltage a bit.  But it still works fine.

I have to device an SSR to turn off for some AC cycles. (just thinking aloud).  Or maybe just drop C2's value just enough to filter the DC but not hold it once the AC drops out a few cycles.

I was wondering kasi kung di pa... how di you check it? ... by touching? ;D
